A Food Safety Consultancy and Training Companythe in USA is hiring a Food Safety Auditor with the following:
Responsibilities
- Pre-Audit Activities:
- Perform comprehensive document reviews and preliminary assessments to ensure readiness for certification.
- Identify gaps or non-conformities in client documentation and provide clear, actionable feedback for improvement.
- Prepare and distribute a detailed Audit Plan using official forms and templates, ensuring timely delivery to the auditee prior to the audit date.
- Audit Planning & Coordination:
- Organize all logistical aspects of the audit including travel arrangements, accommodation, directions, and necessary information for the audit team.
- Schedule and lead Opening and Closing Meetings with client representatives, explaining the audit objectives, scope, methodology, and timelines.
- On-Site Audit Execution:
- Conduct thorough audits in line with applicable food safety standards (e.g., FSSC 22000, SQF, BRCGS, ISO 22000).
- Evaluate compliance by conducting interviews, observing operations, inspecting facilities, and reviewing relevant records.
- Collaborate with audit team members to validate findings and ensure consistency and accuracy in results.
- Reporting & Follow-Up:
- Communicate audit findings clearly and professionally to the client, including identification of non-conformities and guidance on resolution.
- Advise clients on SAI Global (or equivalent certification body) expectations, including timelines for corrective actions.
- Review and assess submitted corrections and corrective action plans along with supporting evidence for adequacy and effectiveness.
- Compile and submit a complete and accurate Audit Report, ensuring it meets quality and compliance standards.
- As Lead Auditor, review and approve team documentation, ensuring all audit evidence and records are complete and ready for submission to the Registration Review Team.
- Respond appropriately to any post-audit review comments or findings issued by the Review Team.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform any other duties or special projects as assigned by the audit program manager or certification body.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or a related discipline from an accredited four-year college or university.
- PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) certification.
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in food safety, quality assurance, food packaging, food ingredients, engineering, or auditing.
- In-depth knowledge of USDA and FDA regulations (or CFIA if based in Canada).
- Familiarity with GFSI benchmarked standards and the certification process.
- Understanding of various management system standards (e.g., ISO series, HACCP).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with electronic document systems.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; ability to travel independently to client sites.
- Physically capable of navigating industrial environments (climbing ladders, bending, crawling, walking in tight spaces, etc.).

Food Safety Auditor-Certifcations
- Certified Lead Auditor under a GFSI-approved scheme (e.g., FSSC 22000, SQF, BRCGS), with current certification in good standing.
- Experience conducting a minimum of 10 third-party food safety audits.
- Direct work experience in a food processing facility in a food safety or quality assurance role.
- Current qualification as an auditor under a recognized GFSI scheme, with preference for FSSC 22000.
