Microbiologist

A leading Laboratory is looking for an technically skilled Microbiologist to join its laboratory team in Abu Dhabi. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in microbiological testing, laboratory quality systems, method validation, and environmental and food/water microbiology.

The successful candidate should have practical experience working in an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited testing laboratory and a strong understanding of laboratory quality, documentation, internal audits, non-conformities, and corrective and preventive actions.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform and supervise microbiological testing of food, water, wastewater, swab, sludge, and environmental samples using recognized international and standard laboratory methods.
• Conduct Legionella testing in water and environmental samples according to approved laboratory procedures and applicable standards.
• Ensure microbiological analyses are performed accurately, safely, and within established turnaround times.
• Apply relevant microbiological testing methods in accordance with ISO, BAM, APHA, and other internationally recognized standards.
• Review test results, worksheets, calculations, quality control records, and laboratory reports for accuracy and compliance.
• Support the implementation and maintenance of the laboratory’s ISO/IEC 17025:2017 quality management system.
• Participate in internal audits, laboratory inspections, and quality improvement activities.

• Identify non-conformities and support the implementation, monitoring, and closure of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
• Prepare, maintain, and review laboratory documentation, including SOPs, test methods, procedures, test formats, records, and quality-related documents.
• Perform method verification and validation for microbiological testing methods in accordance with applicable standards and laboratory requirements.
• Maintain appropriate laboratory records and ensure complete traceability of samples, testing activities, and results.
• Monitor laboratory equipment, materials, media, reagents, and quality control requirements related to microbiological testing.
• Support investigations of abnormal or out-of-specification test results where required.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory safety, hygiene, quality, and environmental requirements.
• Provide technical guidance and support to microbiology laboratory staff where required.

Job Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Microbiology or a closely related field.
• 3–4 years of relevant experience in an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited testing laboratory.
• Strong practical knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements.
• Hands-on experience with microbiological testing of food, potable water, wastewater, swabs, sludge, and environmental samples.
• Experience with recognized methods such as ISO, BAM, APHA, and other applicable international standards.
• Practical experience in Legionella testing is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of internal audits, non-conformity management, CAPA, method verification, and method validation.
• Strong laboratory documentation and technical reporting skills.
• UAE laboratory experience will be considered an advantage.
• Strong analytical, communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
