Food & Water Microbiologist wanted for a reputable organisation based in Abu Dhabi, UAE. This role is ideal for professionals with hands-on experience in food microbiology, water testing, laboratory quality control, and food safety compliance.
The selected candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, quality, and regulatory compliance of food and water samples through advanced microbiological testing and adherence to international standards such as HACCP and ISO systems.
Job Responsibilities
The Food & Water Microbiologist will be responsible for performing a wide range of microbiological testing and laboratory quality assurance activities in line with food safety regulations and industry best practices:
- Conduct comprehensive microbiological analysis of food products and water samples, including testing for pathogens such as Salmonella, E. coli, Listeria, and other microorganisms
- Perform routine and specialized laboratory testing procedures, including sample preparation, culturing, incubation, enumeration, and identification of microorganisms
- Ensure full compliance with HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point), ISO 22000, and ISO 17025 laboratory standards
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date laboratory records, test reports, and documentation in accordance with regulatory and internal quality management systems.
- Monitor and implement quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) procedures within the microbiology laboratory
- Conduct environmental monitoring and hygiene verification in food processing or handling areas when required
- Identify microbiological risks, contamination sources, and non-conformities, and support corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
- Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable testing results
- Coordinate with quality assurance, production, and food safety teams to ensure product safety and compliance
- Follow strict laboratory safety, hygiene, and biosafety protocols at all times
- Stay updated with the latest food safety regulations, microbiological testing methods, and industry standards
Job Qualifications
To be considered for this Food Microbiologist job in Abu Dhabi, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Food Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related life sciences field
- Proven experience in food microbiology testing, water quality analysis, or environmental microbiology within a food industry, testing laboratory, or water analysis facility
- Strong knowledge of food safety management systems, including HACCP, ISO 22000, and ISO 17025 standards
- Hands-on experience with microbiological testing techniques, such as membrane filtration, plate count methods, Most Probable Number (MPN), and rapid testing methods
- Familiarity with international food safety regulations and UAE food safety standards is highly desirable

- Good understanding of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and sanitation standards
- Must not have a background in pharmaceutical microbiology (non-pharma candidates preferred)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a laboratory and production environment
- Good communication skills in English
- Must be available for immediate joining in Abu Dhabi
