A leading Protein Food manufacturing company in Chennai is seeking a Food Technologist to join its production and quality team. This role is ideal for professionals with 3–8 years of experience in food manufacturing, quality assurance, product development, and food safety compliance. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining product quality, ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting production efficiency, and developing innovative food products that meet consumer expectations.

The ideal candidate should possess strong technical knowledge of food processing technologies, food chemistry, microbiology, quality management systems, and food safety regulations. Experience working in a manufacturing environment and collaborating with cross-functional teams is highly desirable.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine quality control inspections and laboratory testing on raw materials, packaging materials, in-process products, and finished goods.
  • Monitor production processes to ensure products consistently meet company quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), GMP, HACCP, ISO 22000, and other applicable food safety regulations.
  • Implement quality assurance procedures and recommend improvements to enhance product consistency and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Perform physical, chemical, and microbiological evaluations of food products where applicable.
  • Collaborate with production teams to optimize manufacturing processes, reduce product losses, and improve operational efficiency.
  • Assist in production planning, scheduling, and inventory coordination to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing operations.
  • Monitor critical control points (CCPs) and maintain food safety documentation in accordance with HACCP requirements.
  • Investigate product quality issues, customer complaints, and non-conformities, identifying root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Develop and validate new food products, formulations, recipes, and process improvements based on market trends and consumer preferences.
  • Conduct product trials, pilot production runs, sensory evaluations, and shelf-life studies.
  • Evaluate ingredients and alternative raw materials for functionality, cost optimization, and product quality enhancement.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate production records, quality reports, laboratory results, and technical documentation.
  • Coordinate with procurement, research and development, production, packaging, and supply chain teams to ensure smooth product launches.
  • Support internal and external food safety audits, customer inspections, and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Train production personnel on hygiene practices, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), sanitation procedures, and quality standards.
  • Ensure workplace hygiene, sanitation, and food safety practices are consistently maintained throughout the production facility.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and improve product quality.
  • Stay updated with emerging food technologies, processing techniques, regulatory changes, and industry best practices.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Food Engineering, Food Processing, Dairy Technology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related discipline.
  • 3–8 years of experience in food manufacturing, food processing, quality assurance, or product development.
  • Strong understanding of food processing techniques and manufacturing operations.
  • Knowledge of FSSAI regulations, HACCP, GMP, GHP, ISO 22000, and food safety management systems.
  • Experience in food quality testing, process monitoring, and quality control documentation.
  • Familiarity with food microbiology, food chemistry, and analytical testing procedures.
  • Experience in new product development (NPD) and formulation development is preferred.
  • Ability to analyze production data and identify opportunities for process improvements.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, production reporting systems, and quality management software.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment while maintaining high quality standards.
