Job Summary
The Certified Specialty Coffee Quality Control Specialist is responsible for implementing and maintaining comprehensive quality control systems throughout the coffee production and service process. The role ensures that coffee beans, roasting profiles, brewing procedures, and beverage preparation consistently meet the company’s specialty coffee standards.
Working closely with the Roastery Team, Operations, Research & Development (R&D), and café branch managers, the specialist will oversee sensory evaluations, roasting consistency, coffee preparation standards, staff training, and equipment calibration. This position is essential for protecting the company’s brand reputation by ensuring every coffee product delivers outstanding flavor, aroma, and consistency.
Job Responsibilities
Coffee Quality Control & Sensory Evaluation
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly cupping sessions to evaluate roasted coffee batches.
- Assess coffee based on aroma, acidity, sweetness, body, balance, aftertaste, flavor clarity, and overall cup quality.
- Detect flavor defects, roasting inconsistencies, and bean quality issues.
- Maintain sensory evaluation records and cupping score sheets.
- Verify consistency between production batches and establish quality benchmarks.
- Ensure all roasted coffee meets specialty coffee quality standards before release.
Roasting Quality Assurance
- Monitor roasting operations and review roast profiles for consistency.
- Work closely with the Roastery Team to optimize roast development.
- Analyze roasting curves and recommend adjustments to improve flavor profiles.
- Ensure roasting parameters are documented and standardized.
- Validate batch consistency using roasting software and production records.
- Monitor roast loss percentages and bean development.
Green Coffee & Raw Material Inspection
- Inspect incoming green coffee beans for physical quality and defects.
- Verify supplier specifications and bean grading requirements.
- Assess moisture levels, density, bean size, and storage conditions.
- Ensure proper handling and storage practices for green coffee inventory.
- Monitor inventory rotation using FIFO principles.
Branch Quality Audits
Conduct regular quality audits across all café locations, including:

Equipment Calibration & Maintenance

Barista Training & Development

Research & Development Support

Corrective & Preventive Actions
- Investigate quality complaints and customer feedback.

Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate quality control records and roasting documentation.
- Prepare weekly and monthly quality reports.

Job Qualifications
- Mandatory certification from the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) or an equivalent internationally recognized specialty coffee certification.
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Food Science, Hospitality, Coffee Studies, Food Technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Additional certifications in coffee roasting, sensory analysis, quality assurance, or food safety will be an advantage.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in specialty coffee quality control, roasting, coffee production, or barista training.
- Hands-on experience working in a specialty coffee roastery is mandatory.
- Previous experience in specialty coffee cafés or multi-branch coffee operations.
- Proven experience conducting cupping sessions and sensory evaluations.
- Experience in coffee roasting profile development and optimization.
- Background in quality assurance and continuous improvement within specialty coffee operations.
