Food Safety Coordinator

A food retail warehouse facility in Dubai is seeking a Food Safety Coordinator to support the day-to-day quality and food safety function across the facility. The role will ensure that products, processes, and operational activities comply with approved specifications, SOPs, HACCP, GMP, FSSC 22000, and applicable Health and Safety requirements.

The successful candidate will contribute to a strong food safety and quality culture, conduct routine inspections and audits, monitor food safety controls, investigate non-conformances and complaints, and support continuous improvement initiatives across the facility.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support the day-to-day quality and food safety activities across the food retail facility.
  • Promote a strong culture of food safety, quality, personal safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain and support the implementation of the Food Safety and Food Quality Policy.
  • Monitor and verify Critical Control Points (CCPs) and other operational food safety controls.
  • Conduct routine online and offline quality and food safety inspections throughout the facility, including production line and area audits.
  • Verify compliance of raw materials, work-in-process products, finished products, labels, date codes, storage, and dispatch activities against approved quality, food safety, and brand specifications.
  • Monitor HACCP plans, CCP controls, GMP, personal hygiene, pest control, PPE compliance, housekeeping, cleaning verification, and adherence to approved operating procedures.
  • Perform product attribute, dimensional, and sensory evaluations and support positive product release decisions.
  • Investigate and escalate quality issues, out-of-specification results, non-conformances, and customer complaints.
  • Coordinate corrective and preventive actions and verify the effectiveness of implemented actions.
  • Maintain accurate quality records, check sheets, trackers, complaint data, KPIs, CPMU records, and quality reports within company systems.
  • Support internal audits and follow up on findings and corrective actions.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives designed to reduce customer complaints and improve food quality and food safety performance.

Food Safety Specialist – Skills

  • Coordinate routine and ad hoc microbiological sampling and laboratory testing.
  • Track laboratory results, retesting requirements, follow-up actions, and test status.
  • Verify the internal calibration of equipment such as temperature probes, weighing scales, and other relevant monitoring devices according to approved schedules.
  • Support new product launches, process validation, product monitoring, and product quality verification activities.
  • Support label creation and verification to ensure compliance with approved specifications and applicable requirements.
  • Conduct post-production meeting checks and support positive product release activities.
  • Work closely with QA and operational teams to identify potential food safety and quality risks.
  • Communicate quality issues clearly and confidently to relevant team members, supervisors, and managers.
  • In the absence of the Quality Supervisor, take responsibility for assigned supervisory quality activities and work independently with minimal supervision.

Health and Safety Responsibilities

  • Understand the health and safety hazards associated with the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Help ensure that employees work in a safe working environment and do not ignore unsafe acts or conditions.
  • Understand and comply with assigned Health and Safety responsibilities and approved safe working practices and work instructions.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety policies and procedures, including PPE requirements.
  • Encourage employees to report near misses and support the completion of near-miss reports.
  • Report accidents, incidents, and unsafe conditions immediately to the management team.
  • Promote safe working practices alongside food safety and quality requirements.

  • Complete risk assessments and provide relevant supporting facts, data, and evidence to the Quality Supervisor or Site Quality Manager for final disposition where required.
  • Escalate food safety, quality, and compliance risks promptly when they may affect product safety, legality, quality, or customer requirements.

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in food safety, food quality, quality assurance, or a related food industry role.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, or a related discipline.
  • Practical understanding of HACCP principles and food safety management systems.
  • Good knowledge of GMP, food quality requirements, and Quality Management Systems.
  • Understanding of FSSC 22000 requirements and CCP monitoring.
  • Familiarity with microbiological sampling, laboratory coordination, and laboratory result management.
  • Knowledge of equipment calibration and verification, particularly temperature monitoring devices and weighing scales.
  • Experience with quality inspections, internal audits, non-conformance investigations, corrective actions, and product release processes is preferred.
  • Good understanding of food hygiene, personal hygiene, cleaning verification, pest control, and food safety controls.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good communication, reporting, influencing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make appropriate risk-based quality decisions.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced food retail or food production environment.
  • Proactive team player with the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
