Hypermarket chain in UAE is looking for a Hygiene Coordinator to support hygiene, food safety, sanitation, and quality standards across hypermarket operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring hygiene practices, conducting routine inspections, coordinating corrective actions, maintaining records, and ensuring compliance with applicable food safety and hygiene requirements.

The role requires regular coordination with food handlers, supervisors, department managers, cleaning teams, and other operational staff to maintain high standards of food safety, personal hygiene, sanitation, and housekeeping.
Job Responsibilities
Food Safety & Hygiene Monitoring
- Monitor daily hygiene and food safety practices across food production, preparation, storage, retail, and service areas.
- Conduct routine hygiene inspections of kitchens, food preparation areas, bakeries, butcher sections, seafood sections, deli counters, cold rooms, warehouses, and other food-handling areas.
- Ensure employees follow approved food safety, hygiene, cleaning, and sanitation procedures.
- Monitor proper handwashing, personal hygiene, protective clothing, and employee hygiene practices.
- Verify that food handlers maintain appropriate hygiene standards during food preparation and handling.
- Monitor cleanliness and sanitation of equipment, utensils, work surfaces, floors, walls, storage areas, and food-contact surfaces.
- Identify potential hygiene and food safety hazards and report them to the concerned department.

Inspection & Compliance
- Conduct scheduled and surprise hygiene inspections across assigned departments.
- Monitor compliance with HACCP-based procedures, GMP, GHP, and company food safety policies.
- Check food storage conditions, temperature controls, product handling, segregation, and stock rotation practices.
- Verify proper implementation of FIFO/FEFO principles.
- Monitor cleaning and sanitation schedules and ensure required activities are completed.
- Check pest-control conditions and immediately report evidence of pest activity.
- Monitor waste handling, waste segregation, disposal practices, and general housekeeping.
- Assist in preparing departments for internal and external food safety inspections and regulatory audits.
Corrective & Preventive Actions
- Record hygiene and food safety non-conformities identified during inspections.
- Communicate findings to the responsible department or supervisor.
- Follow up on corrective actions and ensure issues are closed within the required timeframe.
- Escalate repeated or critical hygiene and food safety violations to management.
- Support root-cause analysis and implementation of preventive actions where required.
- Maintain proper documentation of inspection findings and corrective actions.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain daily and weekly hygiene inspection records and checklists.
- Prepare reports related to hygiene inspections, non-conformities, corrective actions, and compliance status.
- Maintain records of cleaning and sanitation activities, temperature monitoring, pest control, staff hygiene checks, and other relevant food safety documents.
- Assist in preparing documentation required for management reviews and regulatory inspections.
- Ensure all hygiene and food safety records are accurate, complete, and properly maintained.
Training & Staff Awareness
- Assist in conducting hygiene and food safety awareness sessions for food handlers and operational employees.
- Educate staff on proper handwashing, personal hygiene, cross-contamination prevention, temperature control, cleaning, and safe food handling.
- Coordinate with department supervisors to address recurring hygiene issues.
- Promote a strong food safety and hygiene culture throughout the organization.
Coordination
- Coordinate with food production, retail, warehouse, housekeeping, maintenance, and management teams on hygiene-related matters.
- Communicate food safety concerns promptly and professionally.
- Support the Food Safety/Quality team in implementing hygiene improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate with pest-control and cleaning service providers when required.
- Follow up with relevant departments to ensure timely resolution of hygiene-related issues.

Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Food Technology, Food Science, Environmental Health, or a related field.
- Degree is mandatory.
- Previous experience in food hygiene, food safety, quality assurance, quality control, retail food operations, hospitality, hypermarkets, supermarkets, catering, or food manufacturing will be an advantage.
- Candidates with experience in monitoring hygiene standards within supermarkets or large-scale food operations will be preferred.
- Knowledge of HACCP, GMP, GHP, food hygiene, sanitation, and food safety principles.
- Familiarity with food storage, temperature control, cross-contamination prevention, cleaning and sanitation procedures, and personal hygiene requirements.
- Good knowledge of inspection, checklist preparation, reporting, and corrective-action follow-up.
- Strong observation and attention-to-detail skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with employees and department supervisors.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good written and verbal English communication skills.
- Basic computer skills, including MS Word and Excel, are desirable.
- Candidates currently available in the UAE may be preferred.
