A leading genomics and biotechnology company in Abu Dhabi is seeking a Biotechnologist – Laboratory Technician to support advanced molecular biology and genetic testing operations. This role is ideal for candidates with hands-on experience in DNA/RNA analysis, PCR techniques, and laboratory quality control, looking to build a career in the fast-growing genomics and life sciences sector in the UAE.
Job Responsibilities
Sample Handling & Laboratory Preparation
- Receive, label, verify, and process biological samples in compliance with laboratory protocols and biosafety standards.
- Prepare samples for downstream applications such as DNA/RNA extraction, sequencing, and molecular diagnostics.
Molecular Biology & Genomics Techniques
- Perform routine and advanced laboratory procedures including:
- DNA and RNA extraction and purification
- PCR, qPCR, and RT-qPCR setup and optimization
- Gel electrophoresis and nucleic acid visualization
- Support for sequencing workflows and genomic analysis
- Assist in implementing next-generation sequencing (NGS) and other advanced genetic testing methods.
Laboratory Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Operate and maintain key laboratory instruments such as PCR machines, centrifuges, microscopes, and genetic analyzers.
- Conduct regular calibration, cleaning, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Perform quality control (QC) checks, validate testing methods, and ensure compliance with laboratory standards such as ISO guidelines and GLP (Good Laboratory Practices).
- Maintain accuracy, precision, and reliability of test results through strict adherence to SOPs.
Data Management & Documentation
- Record experimental data, maintain laboratory logs, and update Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Ensure proper documentation, traceability, and reporting of all laboratory activities and results.
- Analyze complex genetic datasets and assist in interpretation of results.
Laboratory Operations & Inventory Management
- Prepare reagents, buffers, and media required for molecular biology workflows.
- Monitor laboratory consumables, manage stock levels, and coordinate procurement of supplies.
Research & Continuous Improvement
- Support research projects, validation studies, and method development in genomics and biotechnology.
- Assist in troubleshooting technical challenges and improving laboratory workflows and efficiency.
- Collaborate with scientists and senior lab staff on innovation and process optimization.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Evolutionary Biology, Biotechnology, or a related life sciences field.
- Minimum 2 years of laboratory experience, preferably in genomics, molecular diagnostics, or biotechnology laboratories.
- Strong knowledge of molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, qPCR, RT-qPCR, and electrophoresis.
- Experience in preparation of reagents, buffers, and culture media for laboratory applications.
- Familiarity with DNA storage systems, sample tracking, and LIMS software.
- Understanding of laboratory quality standards, biosafety protocols, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex laboratory and genetic data.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced lab environment.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory.
