Biotechnologist – Scientific Officer for the location Kerala, India, a leading research institute in biotechnology and food science, is seeking a dedicated Scientific Officer – Biotechnologist to support laboratory research, food testing, and scientific innovation.
- Institute Location: Trivandrum, Kerala

Responsibilities – Biotechnologist – Scientific Officer
Research and Laboratory Execution
- Plan, conduct, and document scientific experiments according to Principal Investigator (PI) instructions.
- Perform molecular biology techniques such as PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, ELISA, Western Blot, and microbiological assays.
- Support research activities in food science, food processing, biotechnology, microbiology, and analytical sciences.
- Follow GLP/GCLP standards to ensure accuracy, reliability, and traceability of all laboratory work.
- Assist in experimental design, optimization, and troubleshooting.
Laboratory Operations and Maintenance
- Maintain laboratory instruments including PCR machines, incubators, biosafety cabinets, spectrophotometers, and autoclaves.
- Manage chemicals, reagents, consumables, and laboratory supplies efficiently.
- Ensure strict adherence to biosafety protocols, laboratory quality systems, and regulatory guidelines.
- Support molecular biology and food testing workflows, including sample preparation, analysis, and reporting.
- Monitor instrument calibration and maintain maintenance records.
Data Analysis, Documentation, and Reporting
- Record all experimental observations accurately in laboratory notebooks or electronic systems.
- Analyze and interpret scientific data using relevant software tools.
- Prepare technical documentation including SOPs, reports, experimental summaries, and project updates.
- Assist in drafting research manuscripts, journal submissions, project proposals, and grant applications.
- Ensure proper documentation practices for audits, certifications, and internal reviews.
Scientific Outreach and Industry Collaboration
- Participate in workshops, training programs, and scientific conferences as a representative of the institute.
- Support B2B interactions, client coordination, and contract research management.
- Assist in technology transfer activities, including validation studies and protocol development.
- Contribute to food product development projects and applied research activities.
Qualifications – Biotechnologist – Scientific Officer
- M.Sc. in Life Sciences: Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Genomics, Food Technology, or related fields.
- Strong understanding of molecular biology, microbiology, and analytical testing principles.
- 1–3 years of experience in a research laboratory, biotech industry, or food testing facility.
- Hands-on expertise in:
- PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, Western Blot, ELISA
- Microbiological culturing and microbial assays
- Cell culture and aseptic techniques
- Analytical instruments such as HPLC, spectrophotometers, incubators, or centrifuges
- Knowledge of GLP, GCLP, and laboratory safety guidelines as a Biotechnologist – Scientific Officer.
- Experience in food processing, food analysis, or food product testing is advantageous.
- Ability to manage experiments independently and collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong communication skills in English; Malayalam proficiency preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of working with minimal supervision.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
