Job Title: QC Microbiologist

Location: Kerala, India

Industry: Sustainable – Poultry Feed / Animal Feed Manufacturing

Experience: Fresher to 1 year (Lab internship preferred)

Qualification: BSc Microbiology / Biotechnology or related field

QC Microbiologist to support microbiological quality control activities in a poultry feed manufacturing environment in Kerala. The role involves routine sampling, testing, documentation, and laboratory maintenance to ensure compliance with food and feed safety standards. This position is ideal for fresh graduates or entry-level professionals looking to build a strong foundation in quality control and microbiological analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect, label, and handle poultry feed samples, including raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products, in accordance with approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and aseptic practices.
  • Perform routine microbiological testing such as Total Plate Count (TPC), Coliforms, E. coli, Salmonella, Listeria, Staphylococcus aureus, Yeast, and Mold using standard culture and incubation techniques.
  • Carry out sample preparation, plating, incubation, observation, and basic identification of microorganisms following laboratory protocols.
  • Prepare and standardize culture media, reagents, and test solutions as per testing requirements and laboratory schedules.
  • Operate, clean, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment including autoclaves, incubators, laminar airflow cabinets, microscopes, and colony counters.
  • Ensure strict adherence to laboratory hygiene, biosafety rules, and waste disposal procedures.
  • Accurately record test results in laboratory registers, worksheets, and electronic systems as per documentation standards.
  • Report deviations, abnormal results, or non-conformances promptly to senior microbiologists or QC supervisors without independent interpretation.
  • Support internal audits, inspections, and quality reviews by maintaining organized and traceable microbiological records.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Food Science, or a related life sciences discipline.
  • Freshers are welcome; candidates with laboratory internships or academic project experience in microbiology will be preferred.
  • Basic understanding of GMP, ISO standards, HACCP principles, and food/feed safety regulations.
  • Hands-on exposure to plating techniques, staining methods, microbial enumeration, and aseptic handling.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate records and follow instructions precisely.
  • Willingness to work in a routine laboratory environment and learn under supervision.
  • Good communication skills to coordinate with QC, production, and senior laboratory personnel.
