Instructor in Biotechnology vacancy at a leading public university in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, is seeking applications for a full-time Biotechnology Instructor specialising in Molecular Biology and Genetics. The successful candidate will play a key role in teaching, supervising, and assessing undergraduate laboratory courses in molecular biology, genetics, and related biotechnology disciplines. Working closely with faculty members, the instructor will support the department’s teaching mission and contribute to maintaining excellence in laboratory-based education aligned with international academic standards.
Job Responsibilities
- Design, plan, and deliver undergraduate laboratory courses in molecular biology, genetics, and biotechnology, ensuring alignment with course learning outcomes and program objectives.
- Provide hands-on supervision and technical guidance to students during laboratory sessions, ensuring correct execution of experimental procedures.
- Develop, revise, and maintain laboratory manuals, experimental protocols, SOPs, and safety documentation in coordination with course coordinators and faculty members.
- Demonstrate and train students in essential molecular biology and genetics techniques, including PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, gel electrophoresis, bacterial transformation, cloning, and gene expression analysis.
- Monitor, maintain, and calibrate laboratory equipment and instruments, ensuring optimal functionality and availability of consumables and reagents.
- Enforce laboratory health, biosafety, and chemical safety regulations, promoting a strong culture of safe and ethical laboratory practices.
- Assist in the development of new laboratory courses and the continuous improvement of existing biotechnology and genetics lab modules.
- Support students in data analysis, interpretation of experimental results, laboratory reporting, and scientific writing.
- Participate in the assessment of student performance, including practical exams, lab reports, coursework, and continuous evaluation activities.
- Contribute to departmental meetings, academic committees, accreditation requirements, and quality assurance initiatives.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with advances in molecular biology, genetics, and biotechnology education.
Job Qualifications – Instructor in Biotechnology
- Master’s degree (MSc) in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biotechnology, or a closely related life sciences discipline.
(PhD is an advantage but not mandatory for this instructor position.) - Proven experience teaching or supervising laboratory-based courses in a university or higher education environment.
- Strong practical knowledge of core molecular and genetic techniques, including PCR, nucleic acid extraction, electrophoresis, microbial techniques, and gene expression studies.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural academic environment with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds.
Biotechnologist – UAE
- Instructor in Biotechnology must experience in curriculum development, instructional design, or laboratory course coordination.
- Working knowledge of biosafety standards, laboratory quality control, and compliance procedures.
- Familiarity with digital learning platforms and Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Blackboard for lab instruction, assessments, and student engagement.
- Previous teaching experience within the UAE or GCC higher education system is an added advantage.
