New Zealand Manuka Honey is a unique type of honey produced by bees that pollinate the flowers of the Manuka bush (Leptospermum scoparium), a plant native to New Zealand.

Key Features

  1. Medicinal Properties:
Manuka honey is famous for its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing properties. It contains a natural compound called Methylglyoxal (MGO), which gives it strong antimicrobial activity.
  2. UMF Rating:
Authentic Manuka honey is graded using the Unique Manuka Factor (UMF) rating system. This rating (e.g., UMF 5+, 10+, 15+, 20+) reflects the levels of MGO and other beneficial compounds.
    • Higher UMF = Higher antibacterial strength
  3. Certification & Authenticity:
The New Zealand government has strict testing and labeling standards to protect the purity and reputation of Manuka honey. Only honey that meets certain standards can be labeled as “Manuka Honey.”
  4. Health Benefits:
    • Soothes sore throat and cough
    • Helps with digestive issues
    • Promotes wound healing and skin repair
