Job Responsibilities

  • Regulatory Compliance:
    Support the Head of Regulatory Services in overseeing compliance with all current food safety legislation across catering, hospitality, retail, and event operations. Ensure all activities are aligned with national and local food safety standards, and industry best practices.
  • Legislation Monitoring and Communication:
    Keep abreast of new or amended food safety and hygiene legislation. Analyse the impact of changes, and effectively communicate updates to relevant teams through updated policies, presentations, briefings, and tailored training sessions.
  • HACCP Management:
    Lead the maintenance and ongoing development of the company’s HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) system. Provide expert advice and support to catering and foodservice teams, ensuring consistent application of food safety principles.
  • Audits and Inspections:
    Conduct regular, proactive food safety audits and inspections across all operational areas, including commercial kitchens, bars, kiosks, pop-up stalls, and training facilities. Identify non-conformities, propose corrective actions, and ensure timely resolution.
  • Policy and Procedure Development:
    Develop, update, and manage comprehensive food safety and food service policies and procedures. Ensure policies are consistently applied and fully integrated into daily operational practices.
  • Allergen Management:
    Collaborate closely with allergen facilitators and menu development teams to ensure full allergen control, accuracy of menu labelling, and robust allergen management systems.
  • Event Readiness:
    Complete and distribute pre-match and match-day food safety inspection reports to all relevant stakeholders. Ensure that any issues identified are addressed before events commence.
  • Food Safety Leadership:
    Act as a visible champion of food safety standards by role-modelling excellent hygiene practices, personal presentation, and food-safe behaviour across all operations.
  • Training and Development:
    Design and deliver engaging food safety training sessions for new starters and existing employees. Summarise audit findings during team meetings and ensure that corrective and preventive actions are clearly communicated and understood.
  • Pest Control and Sustainability:
    Manage pest control services across all sites, liaising with providers and ensuring effectiveness. Support sustainability initiatives within supplier selection and food sourcing practices.
  • Reporting:
    Prepare and submit comprehensive monthly food safety and compliance reports to the Head of Regulatory Services, highlighting key trends, risks, and areas for improvement.
  • Local Authority Liaison:
    Serve as the primary contact for Environmental Health Officers and Trading Standards Officers in the absence of the Head of Regulatory Services. Facilitate inspections and provide documentation as required.
  • Food Safety and Environmental Initiatives:
    Support the wider Regulatory Services team by promoting health and safety, food safety, and environmental best practices across all operational areas.
  • HACCP Committee Participation:
    Actively participate in HACCP committee meetings, ensure that all assigned actions are accurately recorded, monitored, and closed out effectively.
  • Incident Management:
    Assist in incident logging and investigations, working collaboratively with the Regulatory Services team to manage food safety incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Ad-Hoc Support:
    Carry out additional duties as required to maintain the ongoing effectiveness and responsiveness of the food safety function.

Job Qualiifcations

  • Possess, or be actively working towards, a recognised qualification in Food Inspection, Environmental Health, Food Safety Management, or a related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge and demonstrable experience in the practical implementation of food safety and health & safety practices within fast-paced operational environments such as catering, hospitality, or event management.
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to plan effectively, manage risks, and integrate food safety processes into broader corporate governance and risk management frameworks.
  • Highly skilled in interpreting analytical and microbiological data, with the ability to make confident, evidence-based decisions.
  • Proven experience in leading, motivating, and managing cross-functional teams to address complex food safety challenges.
  • Ideally familiar with the roles, responsibilities, and authority of regulatory bodies such as Environmental Health Departments and Trading Standards in the UK.
  • Proficient in the use of IT systems for auditing, record-keeping, reporting, and developing management systems (experience with digital auditing platforms is a plus).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Highly self-motivated, detail-focused, and exceptionally organised with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Must hold a full and valid UK driving licence and be willing to travel flexibly across different sites as required.
