A leading food products manufacturing company in Abu Dhabi is seeking a Food Safety Coordinator to manage and maintain the company’s Food Safety Management System (FSMS) in compliance with international food safety standards including FSSC 22000, ISO 22000, HACCP, and BRCGS.

The Food Safety Coordinator will play a key role in ensuring that all food production processes meet regulatory requirements, food safety standards, and customer quality expectations. The ideal candidate will support the development, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of food safety systems while working closely with production, quality assurance, and operations teams.

This role is critical in ensuring that all food products manufactured at the facility are safe, compliant with UAE food regulations, and meet global food safety standards.

Job Responsibilities

Food Safety Management System (FSMS) Coordination

  • Coordinate the implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of the Food Safety Management System (FSMS) in accordance with FSSC 22000, ISO 22000, and prerequisite programs (PRPs).
  • Ensure that all food safety procedures, policies, and operational controls are properly implemented across production areas.
  • Monitor compliance with food safety standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with the Food Safety Team to maintain effective food safety programs and ensure proper documentation and verification.

Regulatory Compliance and Standards Management

  • Ensure full compliance with local food safety regulations in the UAE and international food safety standards.
  • Assist in the preparation and coordination of external certification audits such as FSSC 22000, ISO 22000, and BRCGS.
  • Support regulatory inspections and ensure the facility meets government food safety requirements.
  • Monitor compliance with customer specifications and quality requirements.

HACCP Implementation and Food Safety Programs

  • Support the development, implementation, and verification of HACCP plans across manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure all Critical Control Points (CCPs) are monitored and documented according to established procedures.
  • Maintain Prerequisite Programs (PRPs) including sanitation, allergen management, pest control, and hygiene practices.
  • Assist in reviewing food safety hazards and risk assessments to ensure effective preventive controls.

Documentation and Record Management

  • Maintain accurate and updated food safety documentation, procedures, work instructions, forms, and records.
  • Ensure document control procedures are followed for FSMS documentation and record retention systems.
  • Prepare detailed food safety reports, audit summaries, corrective action reports, and performance metrics for management review.
  • Maintain traceability records and documentation required for product recall procedures.

Training and Food Safety Culture

  • Deliver Food Safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) training to new employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Conduct regular internal food safety training sessions for food handlers and production staff.
  • Maintain the training matrix, competency assessments, and training records for all personnel.
  • Promote a strong food safety culture within the manufacturing facility by increasing awareness and engagement among employees.

Internal Audits and Continuous Improvement

  • Coordinate and implement the internal audit program aligned with FSSC 22000 and ISO 22000 standards.
  • Schedule and conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with food safety systems and operational procedures.
  • Track audit findings and ensure corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) are implemented effectively.
  • Support customer audits, certification audits, and regulatory inspections.

Food Safety Monitoring and Risk Control

  • Participate in investigations related to food safety non-conformities and product quality issues.
  • Assist in root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Monitor and verify foreign body control systems, including sieves, filters, magnets, metal detectors, and X-ray systems (if applicable).
  • Conduct inspections under the Glass and Brittle Plastic Control Program to minimize contamination risks.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or a related food science discipline.
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in a Food Safety, Quality Assurance, or FSMS role within a food manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Food Safety Management Systems including HACCP, ISO 22000, FSSC 22000, and BRCGS.
  • Experience working in an ISO 22000, FSSC 22000, or BRCGS-certified food manufacturing facility.
  • Good understanding of food safety regulations, food manufacturing processes, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Strong documentation, auditing, and reporting skills.
  • Excellent communication, training, and teamwork abilities.
