The Food Design Teacher will be responsible for teaching Food Preparation & Nutrition within the framework of the UK National Curriculum, fostering an environment where students can explore the intersection of culinary arts, creativity, and healthy living. This position will require a blend of practical cooking instruction, design theory, and nutritional education, ensuring that students gain both the technical and creative skills needed to thrive.
The successful candidate will inspire students to view food not just as sustenance, but as a medium for innovation, cultural expression, and sustainable practices.
Job Responsibilities
- Design, plan, and deliver engaging lessons in Food Preparation & Nutrition, ensuring alignment with British curriculum standards at Key Stages 3–5.
- Integrate food design principles such as visual presentation, colour theory, and creative plating into practical lessons.
- Incorporate sustainability, global food cultures, and healthy eating practices into classroom learning.
Practical & Creative Instruction
- Lead students through hands-on cooking and food styling activities, demonstrating a range of culinary techniques.
- Organise project-based learning that encourages students to design, test, and present innovative food products.
- Guide students in sensory evaluation and food presentation for both academic and extracurricular purposes.
Assessment & Student Development
- Prepare students for GCSE, IGCSE, and A-Level Food Preparation & Nutrition examinations through a mix of theory, practice, and exam preparation.
- Assess student progress through coursework, practical tests, and written assignments.
- Offer constructive feedback to encourage creativity and skill improvement.
Classroom & Safety Management
- Maintain an organised, well-equipped, and hygienic food technology classroom, adhering to Dubai Municipality food safety regulations and HACCP standards.
- Ensure safe use of all kitchen tools, appliances, and resources.
- Implement health and safety protocols, including allergy awareness and safe food handling practices.
Collaboration & Professional Development
- Work collaboratively with colleagues in the Creative Arts, Science, and Design Technology departments.
- Participate in staff training, curriculum development, and school events.
- Organise and lead cookery clubs, competitions, food fairs, and themed cultural events within the school community.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food Technology, Home Economics, Culinary Arts, Nutrition, or a related discipline.
- Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent UK-recognised teaching certification.
- Minimum 2–3 years’ teaching experience in a British curriculum school, ideally with experience in the UAE or GCC.
- Strong working knowledge of the GCSE/IGCSE and A-Level Food Preparation & Nutrition syllabus.
- Demonstrated ability to teach both theory and hands-on practical lessons.
- Certification in Food Safety / HACCP Level 2 or higher.
- Experience in food styling, product development, or hospitality training.
- Familiarity with modern culinary technology such as 3D food printing, plant-based innovation, and sustainability initiatives.
- Experience in running extracurricular culinary activities and school events.
