Biotechnology Research Assistant opportunity for candidates passionate about agricultural research, horticulture, and biotechnology to contribute to innovative projects that advance sustainable food production systems.
The Research Assistant will work closely with faculty and research teams on projects focused on microalgae culturing, biomass production, and aquaponic systems. The successful candidate will be actively involved in both laboratory and system-based research, supporting the department’s mission to enhance agricultural productivity through sustainable and integrative practices.
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct microalgae culturing and biomass production within aquaponic systems.
- Apply advanced cell culture techniques, including extraction, characterization, and molecular analysis of bioactive compounds.
- Perform DNA/RNA extraction, PCR amplification, and molecular characterization of algal species.
- Carry out biochemical and nutritional analysis of algal biomass to determine protein, lipid, carbohydrate, and mineral content.
- Assist in designing and conducting feeding trials and evaluating overall system performance in aquaponics.
- Prepare detailed research reports, data documentation, and scientific publications.
- Collaborate with faculty members, graduate students, and external partners to advance research objectives.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, ensure compliance with safety protocols, and follow Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
Job Qualification
- Master’s Degree in Biotechnology with specialized experience in cell culture techniques and aquaponic production systems.
- Prior research experience in horticulture projects, especially those involving aquaponics, feeding trials, or bioactive compound extraction.
- Strong background in cell culture methodologies, molecular biology, and biochemical analysis.
- Practical experience in aquaponic systems and horticultural production research.
- Ability to conduct nutritional profiling and bioactive compound analysis.
- Excellent scientific writing skills for preparing publications, reports, and proposals.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple research tasks.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative academic research environment.
