Role Description

This is a part-time remote role for a Science Content Writer at FoodTechSafety. The Science Content Writer will be responsible for web content writing, content strategy development, research, writing, and proofreading according to upcoming tasks.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Researching a wide range of informational topics relevant to a school-aged audience:
    You will be responsible for investigating topics that are both engaging and educational for students. This involves gathering accurate and reliable information from reputable sources and presenting it in a way that is easy for younger learners to understand and retain.
  • Writing clear and engaging sentences, paragraphs, and longer passages for online educational activities:
    You will craft well-structured written content that explains complex concepts in a simple, digestible manner. This content will be integrated into various online learning tools and activities designed to enhance the learning experience of students.
  • Developing questions, answers, and explanations following established guidelines and samples:
    Using provided frameworks and guidelines, you will create thoughtful and challenging questions that encourage students to think critically about the material. Your explanations should clarify any difficult concepts and offer insight into the reasoning behind correct answers.
  • Adhering to The Chicago Manual of Style and the company’s in-house style guide:
    You will ensure that all written content aligns with the style and formatting guidelines set forth by The Chicago Manual of Style and the company’s internal style rules. This guarantees consistency, professionalism, and clarity across all content.
  • Accepting and applying constructive feedback to improve content quality:
    You will be open to feedback from editors and peers and make revisions accordingly to enhance the quality of the content. This collaborative approach ensures continuous improvement and alignment with project goals.

What We’re Looking For

  • A BA/BS degree in a scientific field:
    A strong foundation in science is essential for understanding and communicating complex topics effectively. Your degree will provide you with the knowledge needed to accurately write and explain scientific concepts.
  • Previous experience in writing or teaching K-12 science content (preferred):
    Experience in educational content creation or teaching science to younger audiences is a valuable asset. This background will allow you to tailor your writing to the comprehension level of K-12 students, making it both accessible and engaging.
  • Familiarity with high school or college-level biology or Earth science:
    A deep understanding of biology or Earth science is crucial for creating accurate and educationally sound content. Familiarity with these subjects will enable you to explain topics in a way that resonates with both students and educators.

  • Excellent writing skills, with strong knowledge of English grammar and usage:
    Exceptional command of the English language is key. You will need to write clear, grammatically correct, and engaging content that meets high standards of readability and comprehension.
  • Strong critical-thinking, research, and problem-solving abilities:
    You should possess the ability to think critically and conduct thorough research to produce content that is not only accurate but also thought-provoking. Problem-solving skills will help you tackle challenges that arise during the content creation process.
  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple projects while staying organized:
