QC Lab Technologist to join a quality control team in Thrissur – Kerala, India at a protein extraction manufacturing facility specialising in fishmeal and fish oil production. The role involves routine laboratory testing, microbiological analysis, HACCP implementation, audit support, and export documentation, ensuring that all products meet regulatory, customer, and export quality standards.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in chemical and microbiological testing and a strong understanding of food/feed safety systems, particularly in marine-based protein products.
Job Responsibilities
Laboratory Testing & Quality Control
- Perform routine quality and microbiological testing of fishmeal and fish oil samples in accordance with approved SOPs and quality standards.
- Conduct chemical analysis including:
- Protein content
- Total Volatile Basic Nitrogen (TVBN)
- Moisture content
- Fat content
- Free Fatty Acid (FFA)
- Carry out both manual testing methods and NIR (Near-Infrared Spectroscopy) analysis for raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
- Ensure accuracy, reliability, and traceability of all test results through proper documentation and record maintenance.
HACCP & Food Safety Compliance
- Support the implementation and monitoring of HACCP plans, GMP, and hygiene practices within the laboratory and production areas.
- Identify deviations from critical limits and assist in root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Ensure compliance with food/feed safety regulations, export standards, and internal quality policies.
Audits & Regulatory Support
- Participate in internal, external, and customer audits, including regulatory and export-related inspections.
- Assist in preparing audit documentation and ensure timely closure of non-conformities.
- Maintain laboratory readiness in line with ISO, HACCP, and export compliance requirements.
Export Documentation & Reporting
- Support the preparation and verification of export-related quality documents, including:
- Certificates of analysis (COA)
- Test reports
- Batch-wise quality records
- Coordinate with production, dispatch, and quality teams to ensure export consignments meet destination country requirements.
- Ensure laboratory cleanliness, equipment calibration, and compliance with safety procedures at all times.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Chemistry
- Microbiology
- Biotechnology
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of fishmeal and fish oil testing parameters
- Hands-on experience with manual laboratory methods and NIR testing
- Good understanding of HACCP principles and implementation
- Familiarity with export quality standards and documentation
- Proficiency in laboratory record keeping and reporting
- Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking
- Ability to work independently during night shifts
- Good communication and coordination skills
- Commitment to quality, hygiene, and compliance
