Kraft Heinz in the UK is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Food Safety Inspector to join our Quality Assurance team. Heinz Baked Beans adhere to the highest standards of food safety and regulatory compliance, particularly in terms of thermal processing and the Integrated Sterilisation Management (ISM) system.
Kraft Heinz – Food Safety Inspector will be responsible for reviewing ISM-related records, auditing compliance, managing non-conformances, and providing expert guidance and training on food safety protocols. JobResponsibilities
- ISM Record Review & Approval:
Review and reconcile ISM-related Filling and Sterilising Records. Approve positive release (PosRel) or recommend quarantine and production line stoppages when necessary. - Operational Compliance Checks:
Conduct independent checks on filling and sterilisation operations to ensure they align with company standards and food safety regulations. - Thermal Processing Expertise:
Act as the in-house expert on thermal processing. Offer immediate support and corrective action in case of process deviations or equipment malfunctions. - Audit & Housekeeping Oversight:
Perform regular area audits with operations team leaders to ensure compliance with hygiene, GMP, and housekeeping standards.
- Training & Mentorship:
Deliver comprehensive training sessions to filling and sterilising operators on ISM principles, Critical Control Points (CCPs), and operational best practices. - Deviation & Non-Conformance Management:
Raise ISM-related Observations and Non-Compliances. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement preventive and corrective actions. - Data Reporting & Documentation:
Maintain and update ISM compliance databases. Prepare detailed reports on observations, audit findings, and corrective measures. - Water Sampling & Microbiology Coordination:
Collect and submit process and cooling water samples for microbiological testing to ensure environmental safety and product integrity. - Process Establishment Support:
Assist in heat penetration tests, sterilising temperature distribution tests, and validation studies to support process establishment. - Workload Prioritisation:
Effectively manage your own schedule and workload in alignment with production line activities and departmental priorities.
Job Qualifications
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related lab-based or scientific discipline. - Experience:
- Experience in sterilising or thermal processing operations (e.g., sterilising controller, coordinator, or operator) is highly desirable.
- Previous experience in a food manufacturing or canning environment is an advantage.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of Food Safety, HACCP, GMP, and ISM systems.
- High attention to detail with a strong focus on food quality and product integrity.
- Ability to analyse large data sets and draw data-driven insights for quality decisions.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – both verbal and written.
- Confidence to challenge non-compliance and mentor staff on best practices.
- Organized, self-motivated, and capable of working both independently and within cross-functional teams.
