A Supermarket Chain in Dubai UAE is looking for a Retail Food Quality Controller with the following:
Job Responsibilities
- Inspect Food Products for Quality and Safety: Conduct routine inspections of fresh, frozen, and packaged food items to ensure they meet quality standards, are free from contamination, and comply with Dubai Municipality regulations.
- Monitor Storage and Temperature Conditions: Regularly check refrigeration, freezing, and storage areas to ensure that food products are stored at the correct temperatures and conditions to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage.
- Ensure Compliance with Food Safety Standards: Implement and enforce HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and ISO 22000 food safety management systems within the supermarket to ensure all food handling processes meet regulatory requirements.
- Check Product Expiry and Shelf-Life Management: Monitor product expiry dates, conduct shelf-life assessments, and remove expired or damaged products from display to maintain customer safety and product integrity.
- Investigate Quality Issues and Customer Complaints: Identify and analyze food quality concerns, investigate the root causes of product defects or contamination, and recommend corrective actions to resolve issues promptly.

- Implement Corrective and Preventive Actions: Develop and execute action plans to address any non-compliance, defects, or deviations in food safety practices and work with relevant teams to implement solutions.
- Train Store Staff on Food Safety and Hygiene: Conduct regular training sessions for supermarket staff on proper food handling, hygiene practices, cross-contamination prevention, and Dubai Municipality food safety guidelines.
- Conduct Internal Audits and Maintain Records: Perform periodic internal food safety audits, document inspection reports, and ensure proper record-keeping of all quality control activities for regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate with Suppliers and Procurement Teams: Collaborate with vendors, suppliers, and procurement teams to ensure all food products meet the required quality standards before being stocked in the supermarket.
- Ensure Proper Labeling and Traceability: Verify that all food products have accurate labels, including ingredient lists, allergens, nutritional information, and traceability details, to comply with food labeling regulations.
Qualifications
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in food quality control, food safety, or a related role, preferably within a supermarket or retail food industry.
- Food Safety Knowledge: Strong understanding of HACCP principles, ISO 22000 food safety management system, and Dubai Municipality food safety regulations.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to identify defects, inconsistencies, or non-compliance in food products and implement necessary improvements.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Capable of analyzing quality-related issues, investigating complaints, and recommending corrective actions.
- Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills in English; knowledge of Arabic is an advantage for interacting with suppliers and regulatory authorities.
- Work Environment Adaptability: Ability to work in a fast-paced supermarket environment, conduct physical inspections, and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in using quality control checklists, inspection tools, and reporting software for documentation and audits.
