Job Responsibilities

  1. Product and Material Testing:
    • Conduct routine microbiological and quality testing on finished products, raw materials, and packaging materials.
    • Ensure only materials that meet PepsiCo’s standards are released for use or distribution.
    • Isolate and document non-conforming materials and products, and initiate appropriate action in accordance with quality policies and procedures.
  2. Compliance with Regulatory Standards:
    • Assist and actively participate during inspections and audits conducted by regulatory authorities.
    • Provide support in addressing and resolving any issues or observations raised by auditors.
  3. Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP):
    • Monitor and ensure adherence to GMP by all plant personnel during shifts.
    • Report any deviations observed and initiate corrective measures.
  4. Food Safety Audits and Implementation:
    • Participate in monthly food safety audits and assessments.
    • Support the implementation of corrective and preventive actions based on audit findings.
    • Contribute to the continuous improvement of food safety standards across the facility.
  5. Environmental Health & Safety (EHS):
    • Promote and adhere to safety procedures in laboratory environments including Safe Work Practices (SWPs).
    • Report Near Misses and actively participate in chemical management activities.
    • Ensure the laboratory maintains a clean, organized, and safe working environment in line with 5S principles.
  6. Sensory Evaluation & Quality Wall Activities:
    • Attend and participate in sensory evaluation panels during shifts.
    • Review the performance of products and packaging based on visual, sensory, and functional assessments.
    • Participate in “Quality Wall,” “Hot Wall,” and “Mini Wall” evaluations to identify and resolve quality issues.
  7. In-process Quality Monitoring:
    • Oversee product testing conducted by production operators during processing and packaging.
    • Take immediate action when results deviate from the standards.
    • Record and monitor results using Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools and the Weak Link system.
  8. Material Disposition and Communication:
    • Communicate test results related to acceptance or rejection of materials to relevant departments.
    • Update and maintain records in SAP or other internal systems.
    • Ensure proper documentation and traceability of all non-conformance reports and decisions.
  9. Corrective Action and Incident Management:
    • Act promptly in response to any non-compliance observed during testing or line monitoring.
    • Initiate Hold/Release procedures and coordinate with production and quality teams to resolve the issue.
    • Ensure the completion and documentation of Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
  10. Market Sample Evaluations:
    • Carry out monthly and quarterly evaluations of finished goods collected from the market.
    • Review samples under Corporate Quality Assurance (CQA) and PQMd programs.
  11. Laboratory Management:
    • Maintain lab equipment in proper working condition.
    • Ensure all laboratory instruments are regularly calibrated and meet PepsiCo’s internal standards.
    • Ensure lab cleanliness and readiness for audits or inspections at all times.
  12. Training and Knowledge Transfer:
    • Provide training and guidance to new or junior staff within the laboratory.
    • Share insights and learning obtained from internal and external training programs.
  13. Complaint Investigation:
    • Support the investigation of customer complaints related to microbiological or quality issues.
    • Help identify root causes and participate in the implementation of corrective actions.
  14. Warehouse and Production Quality Support:
    • Investigate quality-related concerns raised from production lines or warehouses (e.g., rejections).
    • Provide detailed feedback and technical results to concerned departments.
  15. Project Support:
    • Assist in new product development, process improvement, and quality enhancement projects.
    • Provide microbiological or quality data to support decision-making.
  16. Quality System Implementation:
    • Support the implementation and maintenance of quality management systems including:
      • ISO Standards (ISO 22000, ISO 9001)
      • PepsiCo’s internal quality and food safety systems
      • HACCP, GMP, and other compliance protocols
  17. OH&S Responsibilities:
    • Contribute to the implementation and continual improvement of the Occupational Health & Safety Management System (OH&S MS) in line with legal and PepsiCo GEHSMS requirements.
    • Ensure all hazards and risks are managed with proper controls and support the achievement of OH&S targets.

Authority

  • Approve the use of materials and products that meet quality standards.
  • Hold or reject non-conforming materials and stop production lines in case of critical non-compliance.
  • Enforce GMP standards across the plant.
  • Lead shift-wise quality activities independently.

Qualifications – Microbiologist – Freshers

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, preferably in Chemistry, Microbiology, or Food Science.
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills.
  • Technical Skills:Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Familiarity with lab instruments and food safety management systems.
  • Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply for Microbiologist – Freshers.
  • Preferred: Candidates with prior experience in a food manufacturing environment, especially with:
    • Exposure to microbiological analysis
    • Understanding of ISO standards
    • Practical use of quality control instruments.
